OUR STORY
Floris is a sustainable stationery business based in Manchester. Originally based in Cardiff, Floris was founded in August 2020 by Aoife Doherty with the aim of creating beautiful products that don’t cost the Earth. All our designs are created in-house and to align with our sustainability values we work with UK-based independent businesses to manufacture our products. We believe you can have beautiful luxury products at an affordable price without harming our planet.
SO WHAT MAKES FLORIS STATIONERY ECO FRIENDLY?
All Floris stationery is printed on recycled or FSC approved paper. Using recycled paper allows us to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and water use in the manufacturing process which reduces our impact on the environment, recycling also prevents more waste going to landfill. Where recycled paper isn’t an option we use FSC approved paper. The Forest Stewardship Council is a nonprofit organisation that promote environmentally responsible forestry practices worldwide. They ensure that where trees are cut down more are planted, wildlife habitats are protected and forest water is clean, and they work with the local communities to protect them and provide jobs. Paper is not infinitely recyclable so using new paper is needed to sustain the paper cycle and FSC ensure minimal environmental impact.
As a sustainable business it’s also important to think about how are products can be disposed of once used which is why we print with vegetable oil-based inks as opposed to the more commonly used petroleum-based inks. Where petroleum comes from a finite resource that is extremely harmful to the environment, vegetables are a renewable resource with a very small impact on the environment. Vegetable-based inks are non-toxic and reduce the amount of VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) released into the air during printing. As they are made from an organic material, vegetable-based inks also make it easier to recycle paper after use as they are easy to remove from paper and other materials.
